500-meter pace: Power Ten!
Strokes per minute: too varied to worry about

Helloooo, Steve? Pay attention!
Six times, a total of SIX times I missed my mark today at my first try at a “Power Ten” workout. The point of a Power Ten is to drop the pace as low as you cna get it for 10 strokes, just 10 strokes,  at the 5-, 6-, 7-, – 8- and 9-minute marks, and then again at 15-, 16-, 17-, 18 and 19-. At least that’s how I’ve always done it. But like I said, today six times I missed my mark — at 5, 6 and 7 and again at 15, 16 and 17. At 5 and 15 I really have no excuse. I mean, they’re the starting points for each set! But both times I was completely spaced. I was probably five seconds late both times. As for the others: It takes me 18 seconds to do 10 strokes as fast as I can; do the math: that leaves 42 seconds to recover and be ready to hit the next ten. I was just never ready. Then again, this is WHY to do these Power Tens. They’re a mental workout. And today I flunked.
